Ceramic Museum Goedewaagen in the Netherlands

You can find the museum on the provincial border of Drenthe and Groningen in Nieuw Buinen. The museum is one of the adjacent pottery factory Royal Goedewaagen, a legally and financially completely independent foundation.

Visit the Goedewaagen Ceramic Museum

What can I expect during a visit? In the gallery, the museum shows approximately 800 objects in temporary exhibitions and in a longer-lasting presentation of pottery from Art Nouveau and Art Déco. See for the exhibition program exhibitions, for the masterpieces collection and for new acquisitions donations. The Gouda Thesaurus is located in the intermediate hall of the museum. From a PC placed there for the exhibitions and lectures from the year 2000 60 Powerpoint catalogs with around 10,000 reasoned images. The museum is open every working day from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and on weekends from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The entrance costs € 6 per person and for children aged 6 to 17 years € 3 per person.

Tours in museum and factory workshops?

The museum organizes guided tours of the museum and the factory workshops at set times during the week, see guided tours. Make an appointment at least 24 hours in advance.

I have questions about the origin, age, trading price and insurance value of Dutch pottery?

The Royal Goedewaagen pottery factory does not provide any further information about what this factory and the eight other companies that have merged into the Goedewaagen group have made in the past centuries. The museum has been doing this since 1998 and provides, as far as possible, thorough information on decorated Dutch pottery from the period after 1875, the beginning of the industrial era for ceramics. The museum, which is not subsidized by any government, requires modest financial compensation for this public service of online determinations and appraisals. For conditions, see determinations and appraisals..

Can I also paint pottery myself?

More favorable than anywhere else in the Netherlands, the Keramisch Museum Goedewaagen offers the opportunity to also paint ceramics yourself. A unique experience for family and friends groups, for school classes and business associations. Certainly also because the opportunity is given to make your own choice from the pottery to be painted. A guided tour of the museum is included in every painting workshop.

Can you also advise on a necessary restoration?

Since 2011, the Keramisch Museum Goedewaagen also offers a restoration service. To this end, the museum collaborates with Mrs. Hanne Friederichs from Leek, a very experienced and skilled restorer who works for MuseumgoudA, the Drents Museum, the Museum Het Princessehof and many large collectors. Mrs. Friederichs holds a seat in the museum on the last Sunday afternoon of the month where possible. See the bimonthly updated program of activities.

I would like to make a donation.

The collection of the Keramisch Museum Goedewaagen has grown strongly in recent years. This is partly due to the special tax options associated with donations for a museum recognized as Charity by Fiscus. As of June 2011, the ANBI scheme for the museum therefore applies. More information about donations can be obtained from the foundation's board.
